Happy 40th!

I was only two years old, and my father - Lone Wolf creator, Joe Dever - was a fresh-faced 26 year-old when kids across the world first learned they were the last of the Kai, and swore vengeance against the Darklords of Helgedad!

Flight from the Dark changed the course of interactive fiction. It was the first series where the hero grew and improved with each adventure. 40 years (and dozens of books) later, and the same fans are still growing and improving their characters. A remarkable thing.

There have been good times, and not so good times. Lone Wolf came close to blinking out of existence altogether.

I’d like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the passionate fanbase and dedicated contributors who have supported Lone Wolf throughout the years.

In the late 90s, when the series was nearly curtailed, the fan base rallied to keep the saga alive. That led to Lone Wolf's return after an 18 year hiatus.

And when we lost my father, it was the fanbase and contributors that stepped up to make sure it could continue. Without that support, Lone Wolf would have died with him.

Here’s to courage, perseverance, and the timeless journey of Lone Wolf! Thank you to everyone who has made this incredible journey possible. These stories belong to all of us and even once the last page is written for Light of the Kai, the saga will not come to a close.

Four decades may have passed since this tale began, but in many ways it is just the Story So Far…

For Sommerlund and the Kai,
Ben
